Life at sea

Life as a mariner is a must for any traveller wishing to see the world from a different perspective. I cannot tell you how much being in the middle of the ocean having all your thoughts just to yourself can really help you look within. The ocean is a very special place to me and there is nothing better than being surrounded by mother ocean herself. I urge every traveller that if they have the opportunity to go for a swim or to even just walk by the water, they should do it everyday!

Having the opportunity to work on some fabulous yachts in the past and sailing across the oceans, opens a whole new world to travelling. Combining two of my favourite things to do. Travelling and cooking. Life as a seaman, like any other job has its ups and downs. For a chef you’re the busiest crew member on the boat but can receive the most gratifying comments for your food which makes it all worth the while. The yachts normally float around in some of the best destinations in the world and as a crew member if you’re lucky enough to have a little down time after a charter, it gives you the chance to go off and have a little explore around. Personally i like to head straight to the coffee shop and then have a stroll around the markets browsing all the fresh local produce there is on offer.
